Bye Bye Birdie

I have been working.

Birdies before being bisque fired.

After bisque firing. And then they all get raku fired. The really dark definitive shapes are where I applied a wax resist.

46 Years

Marriage is a wonderful invention; then again, so is a bicycle repair kit.
Billy Connolly

I'm lucky enough to have both. The marriage is now 46 years old, the bicycle repair kit is 3 years old. Were we actually ever this young?  Could we have been any cooler than this in the '60s?  Cigarette in my hand, slick tuxedo, and Susan marveling at how well her bra stuffing worked.

The Talent Mistress

This unglazed bird is sitting in a tree I made from a branch I found at the nearby cemetery. He might get glazed or he might just stay the way he is because sometimes glazes don't come out the way I want them to. Or else the kiln does something different than what I planned. Which brings to mind this quote:

“Talent must be a fanatical mistress. She's beautiful; when you're with her, people watch you, they notice. But she bangs on your door at odd hours, and she disappears for long stretches, and she has no patience for the rest of your existence; your wife, your children, your friends. She is the most thrilling evening of your week, but some day she will leave you for good. One night, after she's been gone for years, you will see her on the arm of a younger man, and she will pretend not to recognize you.”

This Give-Away has been in position on a busy street here in Austin for over 3 weeks now.
